Derby boss Frank Lampard can be pleased with his side's start to the season as they look to justify their pre-season promotion credentials.

The Rams are currently sat just outside the play-offs after an inconsistent run of form has seen them slip out of the top six, in place of local rivals, Nottingham Forest.

One player who has been crucial to Derby's impressive start to the season is Mason Mount, who has been a revelation in Lampard's team.

The 19-year-old arrived from Chelsea in the summer on a season-long loan deal and has never looked back.

His good form was recognised by England boss, Gareth Southgate who called Mount up to the senior side recently, but he is still awaiting his first appearance for the first-team.

In an interview with the Derby Telegraph, the youngster admitted that he has learnt a considerable amount in his time with the Rams in the Championship.

"It has been a good experience," Mount revealed.

"I've learned so much about the Championship, from being on the pitch and from some of the older players.

"It has definitely been an eye-opener for me."

Mount will be hopeful of building on his impressive first half of the season when Derby face Wigan this weekend in what could be a potentially tricky fixture for Frank Lampard's side as they look to fire themselves back into the play-offs.

The Verdict:

Mount has been the standout performer for Derby this season.

Many Derby fans would have been a bit skeptical when he arrived in the summer, as he was unproven in English football, but he has certainly adjusted to life in the Championship like a duck to water.

If Frank Lampard's side are to have any chance of finishing in the top six, then they will need Mount to be back to his best after his injury lay off as quickly as possible.
