Curtis Davies congratulated Fulham after their play-off semi-final victory.

The Rams finished the season in sixth place after a strong end to the season, which meant they faced third-placed Fulham in the play-offs. Although that wasn't decided until the very last-minute after a Middlesbrough equaliser against Ispwich.

Derby won the first leg 1-0 at Pride Park after a goal from Cameron Jerome. This led to the belief that Fulham were going to fail at the same stage again while the Rams were at the start of something special.

The Cottagers rallied, though, with a stunning attacking performance at home which eventually broke down Derby's resistance in the second half to win 2-0.

Davies tweeted this message post-match:

The Verdict

This message is a perfect example of why Davies was made captain by Gary Rowett as soon as he joined. This loss will have been tough especially after the belief that the first leg will have instilled, but Davies responded in the best way possible.

Derby were unlucky to come up against such a talented team at this stage, but they are in a good place under Rowett, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see them reach this stage next season at the very least.
