Manchester City are keen to keep hold of Derby County loanee Scott Carson, as per reputable journalist Alan Nixon.
The 34-year-old completed a surprise season-long loan move to the Etihad in the summer, after falling out of favour at Pride Park due to the emergence of Kelle Roos.
The experienced shot-stopper was brought in as cover for Ederson, and he is yet to make an appearance for City in any competition.
According to Nixon, though, City are keen to keep hold of Carson, who is seen is very useful, experienced cover for the Brazilian.
With another 12 months remaining on his deal at Derby, the Rams face a decision of whether to get rid of Carson this summer, or keep him and risk losing him for free next summer upon the expiry of his contract.
Here, the FLW team discuss Carson’s future…
This looks like a fantastic opportunity for Derby to strike a deal with the Premier League club.
You wouldn’t say they’ve missed Carson this season and with one year left on his deal, now seems like a good time to offload him.
Either they could look for some financial reimbursement or potentially look to land one of City’s impressive youngsters in return.
On the other hand, Carson could be a useful back-up keeper to have at the club should the Rams get promoted to the Premier League, so you could understand if they’d want to hold onto him.
Derby are in a fantastic position here, for me, and should look to maximise the situation – whether that’s negotiating a fee, a loan in return, or bringing him back.
They should definitely look to get rid this summer.
Carson has been a fantastic servant for Derby and was an important player under Frank Lampard at times, but his future at Derby looks to be over.
He’s 34 years of age now, so he will surely want to finish his career at City in order to potentially help him get into coaching with his playing days nearly over.
If they can get any sort of fee for him with only a year left on his deal, then that would be better than nothing for Derby, who definitely need to bolster their options in-between the sticks this summer.
Do these 11 celebrities support Derby?
Derby should let him go.
As much as Carson is a reliable goalkeeper, he’s reaching the latter stages of his career and I feel the Rams would be better suited utilising a younger presence in between the sticks.
Kelle Roos is improving yet still has flaws, so I could see the Rams making a move for a new goalkeeper this summer, especially with Ben Hamer set to leave after his loan expiration at Pride Park.
Cocu has been utilising a youthful, exuberant side of late minus Wayne Rooney, and it’s paying dividends with their youngsters really stepping up to the plate, and I feel Cocu should follow suit in the goalkeeper position also.
I think they should move him on.
I’m not quite convinced as to what Carson brings to the Manchester City team, but they’re clearly impressed with him if they want to keep him at the club.
Derby have strong enough options at this moment in time with Ben Hamer and Kelle Roos, and I still think they’re both better options than Carson.
If the Rams are to win promotion into the Premier League, then you would imagine that Derby would be willing to cash-in on Carson, as they look to clear out the ‘deadwood’ in the first-team squad ahead of potential life back in the top-flight.
It should be a no-brainer to move him on in the summer.
