Derby County are keen to add a winger before the transfer window closes and have identified two possible targets according to Sky Sports News [transfer centre, 6/8 09:58 a.m.].

The Rams are interested in Bournemouth's Jordon Ibe and Jacob Murphy of Newcastle, both of whom should be available on loan, but with time running out it may be difficult to complete a deal.

To make things more complicated, there are interest in the two from elsewhere, with Sheffield Wednesday very keen on a deal for Murphy, whilst Ibe is also a possible target for Middlesbrough.

Derby's transfer activity sparked into life late on due to the delay of their managerial situation earlier this summer, and as a result have failed to replace Harry Wilson, the winger who contributed so much to their play-off campaign last season.

Despite that, they got off to a winning start at the weekend but are still prepared to spend where necessary in order to enhance their chances of repeating last year's play-off finish.

The Verdict

Derby looked very good in Cocu's first game in charge but they did lack pace and a bit of spark in attack, with a heavy reliance on Tom Lawrence to create things.

Ibe and Murphy would both be brilliant signings. Both possess energy and pace, with Ibe in particular very direct when on the ball, so both are well-suited to the Championship.

Derby could do with a player in a similar mould to Wilson, as with Lawrence and Kieran Dowell in the midfield they would be able to interchange and take up different positions across the midfield, which is what they did to great effect last season.
