Derby County are on the lookout for a new manager after the Rams dismissed Phillip Cocu from his role last week.

The Rams have had a poor season so far and find themselves at the wrong end of the table, with Cocu paying for it with his job.

Time for change at Pride Park, then, and it remains to be seen who is going to arrive at the club and take over, though several names are naturally getting linked at the moment.

Speaking in a Q&A on his YouTube channel, the Athletic's Derby reporter Ryan Conway discussed the potential for Jody Morris to return to the club - this time as number one - but appeared to play down the idea.

He said:

“Jody Morris – yeah, I mean he was here under Frank, wasn’t he? He had a great relationship with the players here. As a number one, I’m not sure of his credentials – I’m maybe not so sure.”

The Verdict

Morris did good work at Chelsea in the youth set-up and was Frank Lampard's right-hand man at Derby when they arrived there, as well as now working with the former midfielder back at Stamford Bridge.

Would he want to step into the spotlight as a number one, then? Time will only tell but there are obvious links with Derby given his time at the club previously.

Conway isn't convinced, however, so we'll have to see just what is going to happen as the club continues to search.
