Derby midfielder, George Thorne is poised to move out on loan to League One side, Luton Town for the remainder of this season in a search for regular game time according to The Derby Telegraph.

Thorne has had his fair share of injuries in the past, but would have hoped to have forced his way into Frank Lampard's plans in this year's campaign.

But this hasn't been the case as the midfielder hasn't made a single appearance for the Rams as they battle for a top six finish under the former Chelsea man.

Thorne, who turns 26 on Friday, has been playing regularly for the Derby under 23's side, and hasn't appeared in the first-team since Gary Rowett was in charge of the Rams.

He has only got 18 months left on his contract and he'll be keen to make a name for himself out on loan, in the hope of playing a part for Derby next season.

It will come as no surprise to see Thorne being loaned out, as Derby already have a number of midfielders that are performing to a high standard this season, with the likes of Mason Mount, Tom Huddlestone and Harry Wilson all impressing in this year's campaign.

Thorne is joining a Luton side that is in an excellent run of form, and is currently sat 2nd in the League One table, just five points behind league-leaders, Portsmouth.

The Verdict:

It's an ideal move for Thorne and Luton.

He hasn't been getting anywhere near enough game time this season with Derby and a move to promotion-chasing Luton would be the perfect move for the midfielder.

Thorne is far too good of an option to be wasted on the substitutes bench, and he could be the missing piece in the jigsaw for Luton in their promotion bid this season.
