New Derby County signing Joe Ledley has spoken of his renewed hunger to do well at his new club, in a report by the Derby Telegraph.

The former Cardiff City man joined the Rams on a short-term deal and has already been thrust into the action by manager Gary Rowett, who will be hoping his experience can yield some positive results for his side in the coming months.

Ledley himself is delighted to be with the club, and claims 'age is just a number'.

"People say I am 30, but football has changed. Players go on for much longer - 30 is still young for me," he said. "People might think 30 is a bit of a risk, but I know I can go on for many years to come.

"I have got that hunger back, and that's what I needed."

Derby picked up a crucial and well earned point this afternoon at promotion chasing Cardiff City. Ledley and his manager Rowett will doubt be hoping to use what is a positive result to kick on now and start to climb the Championship table.

Ledley was also quick to praise his new manager, and claimed to have offers from abroad but chose to sign with Derby after being sold the club by Rowett and being impressed with the club's facilities.

The Verdict

Ledley should prove to be a shrewd piece of business for the Rams and Rowett.

His experience and quality in the middle of the park is a proven commodity, and the Welsh international will no doubt be hoping to earn a longer term deal if he can stay fit and get back to his best.
