Derby County defender Curtis Davies praised star man Matej Vydra after the forward scooped three awards at the Rams' end of season dinner.

The Czech international, who is the joint-top scorer in the Championship, won the Players' Player of the Year and Player of the Year after an outstanding individual campaign, along with the top scorer award.

As mentioned, with 20 goals in the league so far, Vydra is joint-top of the scoring charts with Lewis Grabban and that total is 12 more than the next best at Derby, highlighting just how important he has been to the team.

And, influential defender Davies certainly appreciated his teammates contributions, taking to twitter after the awards night to praise Vydra.

The former Aston Villa man also called on the forward to continue his strong form, with Derby set for a huge battle as they look to return to the Premier League.

Firstly, they must secure at least a point against Barnsley at home on Sunday that would realistically guarantee a top-six finish ahead of the play-offs, where Vydra will be crucial.

With the way the table is, Gary Rowett's men are likely to face Fulham in the semi-final.

The Verdict

It's no surprise that Vydra collected the two main awards at Derby as he has been their best player this season.

His goals have been crucial to helping the Rams compete for promotion but there's a lot more to do to make this a memorable campaign.

If they are to win promotion you will imagine Vydra will be key and he will no doubt be desperate to top off a fine season personally by helping the team achieve their goals.
