Mason Mount has returned to Derby County training after being sidelined since January with a hamstring injury.

The 20-year-old has impressed at Pride Park this season and his return will come as a timely boost to Derby's promotion hopes.

The club's Twitter account posted images of Mount's return to training after over two months out.

Frank Lampard's side sit eighth in the table and are just one point outside the play-offs but they have suffered a dent in form of late, having won just one of their last seven games.

Their last outing saw them held to a goalless draw against Stoke, but Lampard will hope their form can improve after the international break when Mount is likely to be back involved.

Mount has made 32 appearances and scored six goals for the Rams this season, while his energetic playing style has also been missing from his side's performances in recent weeks.

The Chelsea loanee has had a huge influence on the Derby side by forming key partnerships with the likes of Harry Wilson, Tom Huddlestone and Jack Marriott.

The verdict

Derby's season was at risk of petering out, but this should give it a new lease of life. Derby fans are understandably ecstatic that Mount's return is imminent.

The Rams have failed to earn promotion in recent seasons, despite being well-placed for the final run-in. Mount's comeback could give Derby a fresh edge in this season's play-off chase.
