Derby County are one of the most history clubs in English football history, and was one of the first clubs to be formed.

Derby are noted as one of the twelve founding members of the Football League, and have played a lot of their history in the top flight.

They have competed in every season of the English football league system, making them one of just ten teams to do so.

In the late 1960’s Brian Clough and Peter Taylor had the reigns and led the club to their greatest glory, winning the Football League Championship in 1972. They reached the semi-finals of the European Cup, where they lost to Juventus.

Over the years, Derby have had some notable players, from Dave Mackay to Peter Shilton.

Some of the signings have been top quality, yet some have been absolutely horrendous, especially those in Derby’s last Premier League season.

Here, we look at the three worst signings in Derby’s history…

Do you agree, or can you think of flops that are even worse than the following bunch?

Claude Davis probably still pops up in the nightmares of Derby fans to this day.

The Jamaican defender signed for Derby from Sheffield United for £3m upon their promotion to the Premier League.

He signed on a 4-year-deal but was let go for a cut-price fee just a season later – a terrible signing.

Ruben Zadkovich is a story of failure, for Derby. The Australian international was signed by the Rams and many projected him to be a mainstay in the side.

Instead, he spent most of his career watching from the subs bench, making just seven appearances.

It got to the point where Derby terminated his contract and the player who promised so much was let go early.

Kenny Miller follows a similar theme: he was signed for the best part of £5million, which surprisingly in those days, was a lot of money.

For anything into the millions, players were expected to perform – Miller did not.

With Claude Davis and Robert Earnshaw, Kenny Miller completed a trio of expensive talent that failed to produce for Derby, which cost them big time.
