Peterborough owner Darragh MacAnthony has claimed that Derby will face fierce competition for striker Jack Marriott, with another Championship side making him their number one target.
The 23-year old enjoyed a fine season in the previous campaign, scoring 27 goals in League One.
And, that did not go unnoticed, with several clubs linked with the player this summer. However, it’s Derby who have pushed hardest for the former Luton man, having three bids rejected for the player.
Whilst, they are expected to come back with another offer, MacAnthony warned the Rams that a recently-relegated side from the Premier League are also keen on the player.
“There’s a recently relegated club from the Premier League who their manager was on to Jack’s agent yesterday and he is his number one target. But until one goes, and one comes in, that’s the way it is,” he told PoshTV.
With Stoke City having recently splashed out on Benik Afobe, it would appear to be Swansea or West Brom who are in need of a striker.
You don’t know if this is MacAnthony playing games to try and pressure Derby into forcing through a quick deal, although Marriott is sure to have many admirers.
He had a great season in League One and is ready to make the step up and will be a great buy for someone.
Now, it’s down to whoever is seriously interested, be that Derby or anyone, to agree a fee with Posh.
