Derby County are getting closer to securing a deal for Leicester City striker Tom Lawrence, reports the Daily Star, via Sky Sports.

The 23-year-old was in impressive form last season during a loan spell with Ipswich Town, where he bagged nine goals for Mick McCarthy's men.

However, the Tractor Boys cannot afford to sign Lawrence permanently, and it is Derby who look closest to being able to agree a deal for him - with a price tag of around £7m being quoted across various media outlets during the window.

The Rams are armed with funds to spend following the sales of Will Hughes and Tom Ince this summer, and see Lawrence as the ideal man to replace what were two big losses in terms of goals and assists at Pride Park.

Lawrence began his career with Man United before securing his move to the King Power. He has though failed to break into the team at Leicester, and numerous loan spells have followed resulting in the success he had last season at Portman Road.

Derby are without a win this season so far under Gary Rowett, and fans will no doubt be urging their club to complete a deal for Lawrence as soon as possible.
