Blackpool have reportedly registered their interest in signing Derby defender, Calum MacDonald according to journalist, Alan Nixon.

Blackpool are currently unbeaten in this year's league campaign, and could be outsiders to be challenging for promotion back into the second tier of English football.

MacDonald signed his first professional deal with Derby in 2016 and went on to win the under 23's Player of the Season award in the 2016/17 campaign.

So it's clear to see that he's a player that is highly rated by the Rams, although he's yet to feature for the first-team in the early stages of his professional career.

It wouldn't be the first loan spell that the youngster has had either, as he made 21 appearances for Vanarama National League side, Barrow in the 2017/18 season.

Blackpool will be hoping they can build on a positive start to the season, which currently sees them sit top of the League One table.

But Simon Grayson is seemingly keen to add some quality and strength in depth to his team as they look to make a timely return back into the Championship this term.

The Tangerines are next in action against Rochdale on Saturday, in a game where they will be expected to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

The Verdict:

This could be a shrewd signing if they pull it off.

MacDonald is rated highly by Derby, and I think it's only a matter of time before we see him featuring for the club's first-team after impressing with the under 23's.

But he needs more experience of playing senior football, and a move to Blackpool would be a smart move for him, as they look to win promotion back into the Championship this season.
