Derby County will be seeking to vastly improve their performances on the field of play heading into next season under Wayne Rooney after only just staving off the threat of relegation in the current campaign and changes are likely this summer. 

The club is still very much in the midst of a few off field problems at Pride Park, with the ongoing takeover wrangle and potential EFL points deduction continuing to dominate a lot of the headlines as we head towards the summer transfer window.

Getting these issues sorted will be vital as it will help everyone associated with County to focus on the matters which concern football itself.

Rooney will be looking to shape his squad over the next few months and as a result of this there are expected to be incomings and outgoings in abundance.

The target man led the line for the Rams for much of the season just gone and proved time and time again that age is simply just a number as he hit double figures for his new club.

Experienced at the top level after playing for clubs such as Celtic, Sheffield United and Fenerbahce, Kazim-Richards has never been prolific but has always been a handful for defenders due to his physical style of play.

He is just as likely to score as he is to set up one of his teammates and it is because of this that he formed a key part of what Rooney wanted to achieve this term.

The former Derby player and current manager showed that he hadn't lost his scoring touch during his playing days at Pride Park and found the net with a brilliant free kick away to Norwich City.

He was best known for his stints with Manchester United and Everton, with both clubs forming the bulk of a playing career which saw him win trophies such as the UEFA Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup along the way.

Whilst Rooney was also prolific at international level for England over the years as he developed into an almost complete footballer in every sense.

The defensive midfielder spent the best part of two seasons at Derby County towards the end of his playing career and scored on just two occasions for the Pride Park club as he moved towards hanging up his boots for good.

Better known for his spells with Watford, Coventry and Stoke City, Eustace offered a great level of protection in front of the back four and was a good ball winning midfielder for what ever club he turned out for.

Since retiring back in July 2015, the 41-year-old has moved into coaching and is now the assistant manager at QPR to Mark Warburton.

The Canadian international striker moved to Derby during the 2003/04 season and went on to notch up 24 goals in 102 games for the Midlands club as they bounced between the divisions of the Football League for a period of four seasons.

He would go on to take in other spells at various other EFL clubs across the country, including the likes of Sheffield United, Luton Town, Stoke City, Fulham and West Bromwich Albion.

Peschisolido hung up his boots in May 2009 and went on to work in coaching, with his last known position coming at Burton Albion as their manager.

A legendary player who won several major honours during his long career, Mackay is fondly remembered for his stints with County, Hearts and Tottenham Hotspur.

He is best remembered for winning a league title and three FA Cups with Spurs, whilst he also won the second division during his time in the Midlands with County.

And his association with the Rams didn't end after he hung up his boots, as he went on to manage the club for three years during the 1970s as well as also taking charge of their arch rivals Nottingham Forest alongside stints with the likes of Swindon Town, Doncaster Rovers and Birmingham City.

The defensive midfield payer spent a spell of two seasons with the Rams towards the back end of his career and was known for his sturdy style of play in the centre of the park.

Best known for his long spell with Aston Villa, for whom he made 273 appearances for, Taylor was never a prolific goalscorer during his playing days and his role in the teams he played in was to mainly win the ball back and give it to the more talented individuals on his team.

He also took in spells with Northampton Town and Sheffield Wednesday before hanging up his boots in July 2007.

Savage is a player who divided opinion for much of his career with many stating that he had little or no talent despite playing at the highest level for a number of years consistently during his time with the Rams and Blackburn Rovers.

The now pundit also spent a long time in the top flight with Leicester City and was a sturdy midfield player who could make a lasting impact on his day.

He went on to make over 340 appearances in the Premier League throughout his career, whilst also amassing over 100 in the Championship and is still fondly remembered by fans of his former clubs.

The Scottish striker enjoyed a brief one season spell with County during the latter stages of his playing career and only scored twice for the Rams before departing for Leeds United.

Dickov was well known for his powerful style of play in the final third and he went on to take in spells at various clubs across the country after starting out at Arsenal.

He also took in stints with Manchester City, Blackburn Rovers and Leicester City and enjoyed his best spell in front of goal with the latter as he bagged 36 goals for the Foxes during his time there.

A midfield player that is better known for his career at Newcastle United, Lee spent two seasons with the Rams during the early 2000s and only found the net for the club on two occasions in almost 50 games for the Midlands outfit.

He enjoyed a much longer spell in the North East with the Magpies, playing over 340 games in front of the Toon Army and earnt himself an England call up along the way.

The London born player also took in less memorable spells with the likes of Wycombe Wanderers, West Ham United and Charlton Athletic throughout his career.

Arguably one of the greatest full backs and defenders of his generation, Cole spent a brief spell with Derby towards the end of his playing career but still managed to find the net for the Rams during that time.

He is best known for his successful spells with Arsenal and Chelsea, with the defender famously winning the UEFA Champions League and several other major honours during his time at Stamford Bridge after his controversial move across London.

His 107 caps for England also tell the story of how highly rated he was as a player and he is now well respected in the coaching world after hanging up his boots back in August 2019.
