Darren Bent will spend another season with Derby County having seen his contract extended by a further year under somewhat acrimonious circumstances earlier in the summer, and Gary Rowett will hope the striker can emulate the 10 goals he scored in the league last season.

Bent managed the tally despite only making 22 league starts, but will face further competition next season now that Chris Martin is back at the club following a season long loan spell with Championship rivals Fulham.

With Tom Ince out of the picture however having moved to Premier League newboys Huddersfield in a big money move, Rowett may adjust his tactics, and Bent and Martin could find themselves playing alongside each other next summer.

Martin scored 10 goals himself for Fulham last season, but can boast an impressive record at Pride Park, having scored 52 in 121 league appearances for the Rams.

Ince is a very different player to both Bent and Martin, but together the pair could form a deadly partnership again to fill the void left by the former Blackpool man.

At the age of 33 Bent is entering the latter stages of his career, but having excelled with a host of top clubs during his long career, the striker can continue to find the back of the net next season.

Martin returns to Pride Park following a year out with Fulham, and under new management he has the opportunity to find himself once again.

The prolific duo could be devastating in the division if Rowett can discover a system which suits both players, and their form could carry the Rams all the way to the Premier League.
