Bringing in a right winger could be a priority for Derby County in January after they failed to secure a Harry Wilson replacement in the summer.

The Wales international was one of several loan players to shine at Pride Park last season, with the Liverpool man scoring 16 goals to help the Rams to the play-off final.

However, he was always going to be playing in the Premier League this season, meaning that the East Midlands outfit had to look for a replacement in the summer.

And, Derbyshire Live have revealed how the club failed to bring in Grady Diangana, Jordon Ibe and Sergi Canos, among others, during a frustrating window.

Whilst Jamie Paterson did arrive, the report states that he was not seen as a direct replacement for Wilson and they suggested the right-wing slot in Phillip Cocu's XI is still something of an issue and will be addressed in the New Year.

The likes of Martyn Waghorn, Duane Holmes and Florian Jozefzoon have all featured in that role this season but none have really convinced for various reasons.

The verdict

It seems as though the Rams will have a very busy January and that news will please fans as they have some glaring weaknesses that need to be sorted.

One of those is out wide, with a goalscoring winger needed to help the team - as Wilson did last season.

Of course, it's going to be tough to bring someone of that calibre in but if they are to have any chance of reaching the top six this season that will be one of a few additions when the window opens.
