Derby County opened their season with a draw at Sunderland on Friday, and boss Gary Rowett will have been relatively happy with an away result to get the season off to a solid start.

The former Birmingham manager remains keen to add to his squad however following the result, and attacking options are high on the wishlist of the young gaffer.

Having been linked with a move for Derby forward Callum Robinson in recent days, reports have emerged that suggest that Rowett has switched his attentions to former club Birmingham, and a move for Che Adams.

The 21-year-old scored the winner at Bristol City on the final day of the season to ensure the Blues remained in the division for another year, and the youngster is tipped to play in the Premier League in the near future.

The youngster actually began his career in non-league football with Oadby Town, before earning a dream move to Sheffield United via Ilkeston, and moving to Derby would mark the next step in his search for top flight football.

Adams’ rise has been astronomical, and Rowett will hope the player will continue his rapid development at Pride Park.

The player has the potential to be a direct replacement for the departed Tom Ince, but Rowett will have to stump up serious cash if he is to land his man.

Blues boss Harry Redknapp is working hard to ensure he assembles a squad capable of competing for a playoff spot, and retaining Adams will be key be any success the club enjoy this season.

Derby have funds to spend following the sales of Ince and Will Hughes, and Birmingham will not be able to turn down a big money offer for their starlet.
