Derby County have been linked with a move for Shamrock Rovers defender Trevor Clarke.

The 19-year old has featured regularly for Rovers over the past two seasons and was named the 2017 PFAI Young Player of the Year after a strong campaign. And, according to the leagueofireland.ie, the Rams have taken notice of this and want to bring the Irishman to England.

Clarke is contracted to the Dublin club and therefore a fee would be required, with Rovers expected to demand around £450,000.

Not only did the defender perform well domestically, but he also starred as Shamrock delivered some impressive performances in Europe.

The Dubliner played both legs as the Irish side overcame Stjarnan of Iceland before they were knocked out by Czech Republic side Mlada Boleslav in the Europa League qualifiers.

Whether Clarke would go straight into the Rams senior setup remains to be seen, as the transition from Ireland to the Championship could be a significant step up.

The Verdict

There have been many promising players to come over from Ireland over the years who have excelled in the Championship, from Shane Long and Kevin Doyle who joined Reading many years ago to Matt Doherty who is a regular for leaders Wolves now.

So, Derby fans will be pleased to see that their club are on the lookout for any emerging talents, even if it’s not a big-name signing that will grab the headlines.

Clearly Clarke has a lot of talent and a move to further his career is bound to happen sooner rather than later because of the performances he has put in.
