Derby County are interested in signing Norwich City striker Shae Hutchinson, according to reports from the Daily Mirror (16/01, page 53).

The Rams will be looking to bolster their attacking options this month, as they look to climb up the Championship table after a poor first-half of the season under Phillip Cocu.

But it seems as if Cocu is very much planning for the future, with Derby said to be interested in signing young Norwich forward Shae Hutchinson.

The 19-year-old has been in fine form for Norwich's under-23 side this term, scoring three goals in six Premier League 2 appearances, and also finding the net in the EFL Trophy.

The aim for the young forward will be to work his way up to the first-team, with fellow homegrown star Adam Idah recently scoring a hat-trick against Preston in the FA Cup.

But with Idah, Teemu Pukki and Josep Drmic ahead of Hutchinson in the pecking order at Carrow Road, the striker could be set to leave the Norfolk club this month.

With his contract at Carrow Road expiring in the summer, it is claimed that Derby are interested in signing the talented forward.

The Rams already have some very impressive young players coming through the ranks at Pride Park - Jason Knight, Morgan Whittaker, Max Bird and Louie Sibley have all been given their chances to shine under Cocu this term.

The Verdict

A move to Derby could turn out to be a really good one for Hutchinson, who is seemingly knocking on the door for a place in the first-team.

He is a young, hungry centre-forward who has been in impressive form for the Canaries' under-23s this season, and at the age of 19, he now needs to start experiencing mens' football.

Cocu has shown by playing Whittaker, Bird, Knight and Sibley that if you're good enough, you're old enough, so if he continues to work hard, Hutchinson could become an important player for Derby in the future.
