Derby County return to competitive action this weekend with the beginning of the latest League One season.

It has been a busy summer at Pride Park, with Liam Rosenior taking charge of the first team squad in the aftermath of Wayne Rooney’s departure.

New ownership has now also been installed at the club, meaning fresh faces have been added to the first team squad.

Their first opponents for life in the third division will be Oxford United, who themselves will be aiming to compete near the top of the table this season.

The U’s finished 8th in 2021-22, just seven points adrift of the play-off places.

Latest team news

Several new signings have arrived at Pride Park in recent weeks, and it is likely that some will be handed their debut on Saturday.

David McGoldrick, Conor Hourihane, James Chester and Haydon Roberts could all go straight into Rosenior’s starting lineup.

But the team will be without Tom Lawrence among many other young talents who have all departed the club this summer, including Festy Ebosele and Malcolm Ebiowei.

Meanwhile, Josh Murphy may go straight into Karl Robinson’s team following confirmation of his move to Oxford this week.

Sam Long missed some of the club’s pre-season action due to injury, but it is hoped that he can make a recovery in time for July 30.
