Derby County are hoping to sign John McGinn from Hibernian this summer in a £3m deal, The Sun is reporting.

Frank Lampard is keen on signing the central midfielder to kick-start his summer spending at Pride Park but faces widespread competition for his signature.

This report suggests that Scottish Premiership champions Celtic are keen on the 23-year-old, while Derby's Championship rivals Birmingham City have joined the pursuit.

Other clubs previously credited with an interest include recently relegated Sunderland and Celtic's fierce rivals Rangers.

But Derby are hoping to win this race and are willing to pay up to £3m for the Scotland international.

Lampard is yet to make his first signing of the summer transfer window since taking over from Gary Rowett as manager of Derby but is hoping to capture McGinn ahead of his competitors.

The Verdict

McGinn is a top talent and at such a young age, he already has so much experience in Scotland.

The step up to the Championship would be a good challenge for him and the next step in his promising career.

The chance for him to work with Lampard is not something that the Scottish starlet should turn down hastily.
