Derby County are among a host of Championship clubs interested in signing Aberdeen striker Sam Cosgrove, according to a report by TEAMtalk.

The 22-year-old has impressed hugely since arriving at Pittodire from Carlisle United in January 2018 and has been in red-hot form for Aberdeen so far this season, scoring 15 goals in 17 appearances in all competitions.

His impressive performances in Scotland have attracted attention from a number of clubs south of the border - with Derby, Brentford, Charlton Athletic and Middlesbrough all thought to be keeping close tabs on the striker ahead of the January transfer window.

Cosgrove signed a two-year contract extension at Aberdeen in January, but it is understood that the centre-forward would be available for less than £2million.

Derby have made a slow start to the season in the Championship and are currently 13th in the Championship table following their 2-0 defeat at Hull City at the weekend.

The Verdict

This could be a decent signing for Derby. Cosgrove is obviously a talented striker and his goalscoring record for Aberdeen this season is exceptional.

He doesn't have any experience in the Championship and his goal scoring record for Carlisle in League Two wasn't great, but for less than £2million, it's a risk worth taking.

He'd obviously have to adapt to the challenges that come with playing in the Championship, but he'd be able to learn a lot from training alongside the likes of Chris Martin, Martyn Waghorn and Jack Marriott.

Phillip Cocu has shown that he's prepared to give young players a chance at Derby and the Dutchman could be able to get the best out of him, if he were to make the switch to Pride Park.
