Sky Bet Championship side Derby County are set to make a surprise move for Sheffield Wednesday striker Atdhe Nuhiu, according to HITC Sport.
The 26-year-old arrived at Wednesday in 2013 on a free transfer from Turkish side Eskişehirspor, scoring on his debut against QPR, but has only ever managed 16 goals in 83 appearances in a stuttering career in England.
But now the Austrian has emerged as a shock target for promotion hopefuls Derby County, who have already bought in strikers Darren Bent and Andreas Weimann, and also have Chris Martin and Mason Bennett as options up front.
With a year left on his contract, and finishing as Wednesday’s top scorer last season, the former Rapid Vienna striker could be on his way to Derby, who’ve only managed four goals this season.
Nuhiu is a decent Championship striker, but whether he’s able to fire a side to promotion is a different story, and this looks like it’s an odd move.
The Rams currently sit in 19th place in the Sky Bet Championship, whilst Sheffield Wednesday sit in 15th spot in the division.
Derby County fans… What do you make of this news? Do you need another striker? Even if you do, is Nuhiu the answer? Will you win promotion this year? Let us know your thoughts and opinions in the comments below!
