Derby County supporters groups take action amid current uncertainty

Published

on

Derby County supporters groups have sent a joint letter to the club urging them to clarify “the current situation and the future of the club” amid the current uncertainty surrounding the Pride Park outfit.

The Rams secured Championship survival on the final day of the season but the week or so since has been as hectic as ever, with serious concerns emerging over the future of the club.

Reports have indicated that Erik Alonso’s takeover, which has been awaiting EFL approval since the agreement was revealed in April, has now fallen through while the East Midlands club could be facing a points deduction after the EFL won an appeal against them.

There has been very little communication from the club on any of these issues and with season ticket renewals now due, fans have taken action in pursuit of more clarity.

After a meeting of Derby supporters groups, an open letter has been sent to the club calling for clarification on “the current situation and the future of the club”.

The letter – posted by Rams Trust but signed on behalf of Derby fans by multiple supporters groups – includes requests for information about the financial state of the club, rumours about administration, and the situation concerning a potential takeover.

Additionally, they have called for the club to commit to a public meeting with fans and to commit to supporter representation in board meetings moving forward.

What club do these 21 former Derby County players ply their trade at now?

The Verdict

It is fantastic to see supporters groups coming together and calling for the East Midlands club to not just be more clear about the current state of the club and its future but also commit to involving fans in decision-making moving forward.

If the last 12 to 18 months have taught us anything it’s that supporters are the beating heart of football.

The Pride Park faithful have not had an easy ride recently and amid the current uncertainly surrounding the club, they need and deserve clarity.

Hopefully, the Rams can give them that.
