Derby County have submitted a bid worth £4 million for Leicester man Matty James, according to the Daily Mail.

The central midfielder, who has just one year remaining on his contract at the King Power Stadium, was with Leicester during their remarkable title-winning season but injury prevented him from making an appearance.

He has made just one Premier League appearance since but has spent time out on loan with Championship side Barnsley where he impressed during his 18 matches for the Tykes.

Derby manager Gary Rowett is keen to bring the 25-year-old to Pride Park in order to boost his side's chances at gaining a place in the Premier League.

One thing which is crucial in a side looking for promotion is players who have been there and done it, something which James would offer due to his involvement in Leicester's promotion.

James is certainly no stranger to the Championship, making over 100 appearances in the league with sides such as Preston North End and current club Leicester.

Derby have also looked at signing Hull midfielder Tom Huddlestone who would offer similar experience but James would probably be a better long-term investment, if they can keep him fit.
