Derby County produced a stunning fightback to beat Leeds United in the second leg of their Championship play-off semi-final at Elland Road on Wednesday night, in one of the most exciting games in recent memory.

Frank Lampard's side produced a magnificent team performance, coming from 2-0 down on aggregate to win 4-3 and set up a final with Aston Villa at Wembley later this month.

The Derby boss will have plenty of important and difficult decisions to make ahead of the final and the players will all be desperate to impress him.

One player who should definitely be banging on his manager's door ahead of the occasion is striker Jack Marriott, after his man-of-the-match performance off the bench in the second leg against Leeds.

The 24-year-old would have been disappointed not to start the game, but made an instant impact, scoring with his first touch just moments after replacing the injured Duane Holmes to give the Rams hope going into half-time.

Marriott provided instant energy to the Derby attack and was rewarded for his desire to chase a header from teammate Mason Bennett, when he took advantage of a Leeds mix-up to give the Rams a lifeline.

The striker would not have expected to be given his chance so early in the game, but showed great composure to take his chance just moments after coming on.

He continued to cause the Leeds defence problems all night with his pace and energy and showed unbelievable composure when he latched on to Richard Keogh's pass and lifted the ball over the advancing Kiko Casilla to score the winner.

Marriott has been an important player for Derby this season and has scored 12 goals in 42 appearances since joining from Peterborough United in the summer but has been on the fringes of Lampard's squad of late.

The striker has not started a game for the Rams since the 4-0 defeat to Villa in March and did not score a single goal in the Championship in 2019.

Marriott ended a run of 16 games without scoring against Leeds and appears to have returned to form at exactly the right time.

He has given Lampard a massive decision to make ahead of the final and will be desperate to start.

Marriott scored in both EFL Cup games against Manchester United and Chelsea this season, proving that he can handle the pressure of playing in the big matches.

He also scored two goals against Villa for Peterborough in the FA Cup last season and will be desperate to start against them at Wembley.

His performance against Leeds will have given him a much-needed confidence boost, after going so long without scoring.

All he can do now is focus on working hard in training, in the hope that Lampard will give him the chance to prove himself on the Wembley stage.
