Derby County have it all to do in the second-leg if they are to advance to the Sky Bet Championship play-off final, after losing 1-0 to Leeds United on Saturday afternoon.

Frank Lampard's men were looking to make their home advantage count at the weekend, but came up short against a Leeds side that scored the only goal of the game through Kemar Roofe in the second-half.

But the game may well have been turned on its head late on, had referee Craig Pawson stuck with his initial decision of awarding the Rams a penalty, following Jack Harrison's challenge on Jayden Bogle.

The referee went over to his linesman after strong confrontation from Leeds players, and the decision was overturned, leaving Derby players and fans alike fuming.

Derby skipper Richard Keogh was not a happy man at the final whistle, getting into a spat with Whites counterpart Liam Cooper, and speaking to the Derby Telegraph after the game, he blasted Leeds players for surrounding the referee whilst the game was in limbo.

He said: "It's disappointing. I thought it was a great bit of play, a great ball, Boges looked like he was the wrong side of him and he (Harrison) kicked his leg.

"We get told that you shouldn't surround the referee. They had every player round the referee, which is why I stepped in.

"It's the referee's call and he changed his mind.

"When I asked him, he just said he had changed his mind. I don't know exactly why. You'd have to ask them (the match officials)."

Lampard's men will now have to beat Leeds at the fourth time of asking this season, if they are to stand any chance of going through to the play-off final to face one of either Aston Villa or West Brom.

The Verdict

I think Derby probably had every right to be frustrated, as you don't often see a referee's decision be overruled by the linesman's.

It was the right decision to rule out the penalty though, as in my view, it was never a penalty in a million years.

Lampard's side will now look to channel their disappointment into revenge next week, as they prepare to face the Whites at Elland Road.
