Phillip Cocu looks set to add the final piece to his Derby County jigsaw, with the transfer window closing on Friday afternoon.

It has been a busy summer transfer window for the Rams, who have made a host of signings after narrowly missing out on a play-off place last term.

Defensive reinforcements have arrived in the form of Nathan Byrne, Mike te Wierik and Matt Clarke, whilst Kamil Jozwiak and Jordon Ibe have come in to add quality out wide.

The last position they need to address is up top. Chris Martin left the club at the end of last season upon the expiration of his contract at Pride Park, whilst Martyn Waghorn has been struggling with injury.

Quiz: Do Nottingham Forest and Derby County have these 10 things in common?

The likes of Charlie Austin, Serdar Dursun and Connor Wickham have been linked with moves to Pride Park - three strikers who possess impressive records in front of goal, especially Austin and Dursun.

But the Rams look set to bring in Colin Kazim-Richards, who according to Ryan Conway of The Athletic, has signed a one-year deal at Pride Park after searching for a new club.

Kazim-Richards is widely known by supporters of English clubs for his spells at Blackburn Rovers and Sheffield United, and he will be keen to end his career on a high at Derby.

Derby fans have been left slightly underwhelmed by the impending arrival of Kazim-Richards. He has played at the highest level, both domestically and internationally, scoring two goals in 37 games for Turkey.

But the 34-year-old has scored 22 goals in the last five years, after flattering to deceive in Mexico with Lobos and Pachuca.

Kazim-Richards failed to cut the mustard the last time he played in England, too. The Championship is a tough division and the tempo is only getting higher, so it remains to be seen whether he can fit in and cope.

Of course, this won't be a shot in the dark for Cocu. Kazim-Richards has been training with Derby, and has seemingly done enough to impress Cocu and earn a deal in the East Midlands.

But on the face of it, bringing in a 34-year-old who has been unable to impress in a league which is of worse standard than the Championship on a free transfer hardly screams ambition.

He'll add a physical prowess to the attacking line, but it's not all about adding presence and strength up top. It's about having quality in front of goal.
