Derby County's squad is currently light in certain areas.

They have lost star man Will Hughes, who opted to make the step-up to the Premier League and join Watford this summer.

As a result, they will need to replace him.

They need someone to come in and provide that creative spark in midfield.

This man could be Harrison Reed, who is currently out of favour at Southampton.

Reed's future at Southampton looks bleak after he was sparingly used by Claude Puel.

With a number of fine central midfielders ahead of him in the pecking order (such as James Ward-Prowse, Oriol Romeu and Pierre Emile Hojbjerg), Harrison Reed should look to permanently exit the club he has been at since he was a child.

This will be a tough decision to take but for the sake of his career, it is a sensible one.

The 22-year-old is no longer an up and coming prospect at Southampton but he is still young enough to assert himself in the Championship with a successful season and work his way back up to the top level.

The former England under-20 international would bring creativity to the central midfield ranks at Derby and he has a good all-round game.

With only 30 appearances in all competitions under his belt, Reed needs to be looking to leave Southampton to make a name for himself somewhere else.

The best place for him to develop his game is the Championship and he could prove to be a shrewd acquisition for Derby County if they can snap him up on the cheap.
