Derby County have enjoyed a largely average start to the new campaign, and lie in mid table with seven points from their opening five fixtures.

Boss Gary Rowett will be keen to see his side improve following the international break, and will know that a place in the top six is the minimum expectation at Pride Park this term.

Rowett has improved on his attacking options in recent weeks with the wonderful acquisition of Tom Lawrence from neighbouring Leicester City, but with funds remaining from the summer sales of Tom Ince, Will Hughes and Cyrus Christie, more faces could be seen at Pride Park before the transfer window slams shut.

Defensively Derby have been questionable at times this season, with the Rams’ back line conceding seven times so far this season.

The funds are there to go out and secure a top central defender to marshal the defence and push Derby into the top six, so could Rowett emerge as a late suitor for Bristol City’s Aden Flint?

The 28-year-old defender is one the best in the division, and would significantly improve Rowett’s options at the back.

Flint has been subject from a number of Championship sides this summer, and a tussle could ensue as the final days of the summer window creep by.

Bristol City are keen to keep their long-serving man at Ashton Gate this summer, but a bid that meets their valuation of the player will surely see Flint move on.

There will be huge competition for the player, but with funds at his disposal, Rowett should certainly consider lining up a late swoop for the former non-league man.

Do you think your side should consider a late swoop for Flint, Derby fans?
