Sky Bet Championship outfit Derby County look set to turn to Chris Powell, should they decide that Nigel Pearson’s position becomes untenable.
Pearson was suspended by the Rams just hours before the club’s 2-0 win over Cardiff City on Tuesday evening, with an internal investigation set to be carried out in due course.
Former Charlton Athletic boss Powell stood in for Pearson at the Cardiff City Stadium and according to the Derby Telegraph, he is in pole position to take over managerial duties permanently, if the East Midlands-based club decide to part with the former Leicester City boss.
Pearson had overseen a horrendous start to the 2016/17 campaign, with the Rams netting just three goals in the league, before collecting all three points on Tuesday night.
It has been reported that the suspension is down to a verbal disagreement between the previously controversial Pearson and Derby County chairman Mel Morris, although full details are yet to be revealed.
