Derby are looking at the former Everton academy prospect as somebody who could fill the void vacated by Will Hughes, who will not play until 2016 after injuring his knee on the first day of the season.

The ball-playing midfielder signed for Boro from Wigan for around £2 million in January but has so far failed to make a starting line-up for Aitor Karanka's men this season.

A move to Brentford could appeal to the player as he spent a successful two seasons at Griffin Park before departing to the Latics at the start of last season.

Wolves are also in the hunt for a midfielder and Forshaw would be a real asset for Wolves given their style of play, with the 23-year-old always keen to get the ball down and play.

It is thought that Boro boss Karanka is not desperate to loan the player out but regular first-team football would be a big factor for the player.

At the age of just 23, Forshaw has a large part of his professional playing career left and it is key that he finds the right club to help him develop and flourish, because so far he has seemingly failed to establish himself consistently in the starting line-up of a club.
