Derby County has joined the race to win the signature of Brentford striker Andre Gray, amid ongoing interest from Hull City, according to HITC.

HITC are reporting that the Tigers might be ready to fork out more than £8 million to attract the player to the KC Stadium, even though it seems that the Rams are prepared to outbid that offer.

Derby have already shown they are capable of meeting price tags put on targets they identify. Only a month ago, they broke their own transfer record and signed Hull’s Tom Ince, agreeing to pay off his £4.75 million buy-out clause.

Gray joined Brentford in 2014 after impressing with Luton Town for two years, and quickly adapted to life at his new club.

But this depends on Brentford’s willingness to engage in any negotiations involving their hitman. The Bees owner Matthew Benham denied reports that his club gave Gray the green light to discuss a potential move with any team.

How long Brentford will be able resist such a lucrative package is not clear, and manager Marinus Dijkhuizen is said to keen to keep the 24-year-old at the Griffin Park, particularly after an outstanding season, during which he scored 18 goals and provided eight assists in all competitions.

The Bees are currently going through a stage of transition and it is unlikely that Dijkhuizen will want to lose a player like Andre Gray before the start of the season, after he was so pivotal for the London club last year.
