Derby County set to beat Championship rivals to agreement for 32-year-old

Stoke City striker Lee Gregory is undergoing a medical ahead of a loan move to Derby County, a report from The Daily Mail has claimed.

Gregory joined the Potters from Millwall back in the summer of 2019, and has since gone onto score seven goals in 50 appearances for the club in total.

The striker has however, fallen down the pecking at Stoke this season, making just six Championship appearances in the current campaign, and it now seems as though he is set for a move elsewhere in search of more regular game time.

According to this latest update, Gregory is currently having a medical at Derby, with the view to a deadline move to the Rams on a temporary basis until the end of the season.

It is also thought that Derby’s Championship rivals Huddersfield Town had been keen on a loan move for Gregory, although the striker now looks set to spend the rest of the campaign at Pride Park.

Derby currently sit 18th in the Championship table, five points clear of the relegation after a run of three straight 1-0 wins, and are next in action when they make the trip to Rotherham on Tuesday night.

The Verdict

This is certainly an interesting one to consider from a Derby perspective.

It does seem as though the Rams are short of attacking options upfront, so you can understand why they would be keen to add an attacker to their ranks before the window closes.

However, it is worth noting that Gregory has never been a particularly prolific striker at this level, meaning you do wonder slightly whether or not he will be capable of having the impact Derby need him to.

Indeed, the fact that Stoke are willing to let him out on loan despite they themselves seemingly being short of goalscoring options does seem telling, and it will be interesting to see how Gregory fares should he make the move to Pride Park.
