Derby County are set to join Rangers in the race to sign St. Johnstone goalkeeper Zander Clark in the summer, according to reports from Football Insider.

The 26-year old has made over 90 appearances for the Saints since coming through the youth ranks at McDiarmid Park, but could be set to leave in the summer with his contract set to expire next year.

The commanding shot-stopper has conceded just 48 goals in 40 games this season, and is believed to be attracting interest from Steven Gerrard's side ahead of the 2019/20 campaign with Wes Foderingham and Jak Alnwick facing uncertain futures at Ibrox.

But, reports now claim that Frank Lampard's Rams are set to join the race for Clark, as they look to solve their goalkeeping conundrum.

Kelle Roos and Scott Carson have been battling it for the number one shirt at Pride Park this season, but with Roos' contract set to expire in the summer and Carson approaching the final years of his playing career, a new keeper may be needed.

Derby will be hoping to win promotion via the play-offs this season, as they look to face Leeds United over two legs.

The Verdict

To me, this would be a quality signing for Derby, as it's an area that definitely need to strengthen.

On paper, Clark looks to be a very good goalkeeper, who is at a good age and is entering his prime years.

As alluded to before, they need another goalkeeper, especially if they are to lose Carson and Roos in the summer, so this would be a smart addition.
