Derby County have completed the signing of former West Ham youngster Jahmal Hector-Ingram after he impressed during a trial with the Rams.

The striker had been with the Hammers for 14 years, however he joined Derby this summer to be assessed ahead of a potential move.

And, he did very well, scoring five goals in six games which has prompted the east Midlands outfit to bring the 20-year-old in on a permanent basis.

Hector-Ingram will initially join up with the Rams U23 squad and academy director Darren Wassall outlined why they moved for the forward when speaking to the official site.

"I am delighted to say we have offered Jahmal a contract to prove himself here. When a trialist comes in, especially a centre-forward, all you can ask is that they score goals. He has done that and shown he is a great finisher.

"He has work to do on his all-round game, as everyone does in the Under-23s and Under-18s. We like what we have seen so far as a player and as a person. He has a great character."

The Verdict

Even though he won't be a name familiar to many Derby fans, Hector-Ingram has the potential to force his way into the first-team, so this is a good move from the club.

Bringing him in on a trial was a smart move as it allows them to assess the forward as a player and his character and they clearly like what they've seen.

His goalscoring in pre-season shows he is a talent but Wassall has made it clear that improvements are still needed from him.

Now, it's down to the player to maintain his impressive form, take advice from the coaches on board and see how his career can develop.
