Derby County are said to be rivalling local rivals, Nottingham Forest to the potential signing of Wigan midfielder, Gavin Massey according to Football Insider.

Massey has been in impressive form recently and has scored some crucial goals to edge Wigan closer to Championship survival ahead of their relegation rivals.

Most notably, Massey netted a brace at Elland Road as his side stunned promotion-chasing, Leeds United not so long ago.

This run of impressive showings seemingly hasn't gone unnoticed with the likes of Forest and Derby registering their interest in the pacy winger.

Massey is also out of contract at the end of this year's league campaign, and it seems highly unlikely that he will be signing a new deal with Wigan in the summer.

Football Insider also claim that QPR are said to be monitoring his contract status heading towards the end of the Championship season.

Massey has also scored against Derby this season, so Frank Lampard will be well aware of the type of player he is, and he is going to see whether he can tempt the winger to sign for the Rams ahead of next year's campaign, which could well be in the Premier League.

The Verdict:

He's destined for bigger and better things.

Massey is far too good of a player for Wigan, and I would be stunned to see him stay with the Latics next season.

A move to either Nottingham Forest or Derby would be the ideal move, as he could thrive at both promotion-chasing clubs who could get the best out of him.
