Derby County are pursuing their interest in West Bromwich Albion striker Victor Anichebe by preparing a loan swoop in the coming days, according to the Daily Mail

The loan window re-opens on Wednesday and Rams manager Paul Clement is ready to try and complete a deal for the Nigerian.

The Midlands side were interested in signing Anichebe on a permanent deal in the summer according to the Sun, reportedly ready to pay £3 million for the striker's services.

However, a deal couldn't be reached in time before the deadline passed, and Derby are now resorting to the loan market to sign their transfer target.

The Rams have seen a large number of players come in through the door this summer transfer window, leading to spending in excess of £20 million.

However, the club are looking to further strengthen their side by adding some more Premier League experience and quality to their attacking ranks, in a bid to win promotion to the top-flight.

The West Brom striker only managed to score three goals in 21 games last season, but the Rams boss is keen to add a strong physical presence up front to complement the likes of Tom Ince, Chris Martin and Johnny Russell.

With West Brom boss Tony Pulis able to call upon three other strikers ahead of Anichebe, it seems likely that West Brom will allow the move to happen should Derby meet their demands.

However, whether Anichebe is keen on the step down to the second tier of English football remains to be seen.

What the interest and potential loan move does show is Derby's ambition as they continue their attempts to bring players in. The club will certainly be favourites for promotion this season if their form improves in the near future, particularly due to the squad they have shaped over the last three months.

Signing Anichebe would be another building block towards the clubs plans.
