Derby County have rejected Richard Keogh's appeal against his sacking by the club, according to The Telegraph.

The 33-year-old had his contract terminated by the club for gross misconduct last month, following his involvement in a car accident which saw his Derby teammates Tom Lawrence and Mason Bennett charged with drink-driving.

Lawrence and Bennet were both fined six weeks' wages by Derby for their involvement in the crash, but Keogh - who sustained a serious knee injury in the accident - had his contract terminated by the club after disciplinary process, although he had the right to appeal against the decision.

Keogh's appeal against was heard at Pride Park last week, but after some consideration, Derby chairman Mel Morris informed the former Rams captain last night that the decision to terminate his contract will stand.

According to The Telegraph, Keogh has one final route of appeal and is expected to take his case to the English Football League with the assistance of the Professional Footballers’ Association.

The Verdict

I'm really not sure what to make of this decision. I completely understand that Keogh's actions brought the club into disrepute and he deserved to be punished, but I still think it's very harsh that he's lost his job when Lawrence and Bennett both haven't.

Keogh has been such an important player for Derby over the past few seasons and it's a great shame that his seven-year association with the club has been brought to an end like this.
