Derby County have turned their attention to Kenneth Zohore in wake of Charlie Austin snubbing a move to Pride Park, according to Football Insider.

Phillip Cocu is chasing a deal to sign a new striker in the coming days, but West Brom forward, Austin, has snubbed a move to the East Midlands.

It now appears that Derby have turned their attention to his West Brom teammate, Zohore.

Like Austin, Zohore is down the pecking order at the Hawthorns in the Premier League, with Slaven Bilic placing his faith in Callum Robinson to lead the line. Karlan Grant is also expected to sign in the coming days, opening the door for a departure or two.

That could lead Zohore to Derby's door.

The 26-year-old has been with West Brom for little over 12 months, but has failed to justify the £8m that the Baggies forked out to sign him.

Last season, he scored only five goals in all competitions, with just three of those coming in the Championship. That was despite West Brom winning promotion and sitting in the upper echelons of the table alongside Leeds United for large parts of the season.

In terms of Derby, it's been a tough start to the season for Cocu's side. They have just three points on the board from four fixtures and have struggled with their attacking depth up-front. Wayne Rooney, who has played the majority of his Derby career in midfield, has been forced to lead the line on occasions.

The Verdict

Look, there's a need for Derby to get a striker through the door this month. Cocu is short and he needs some depth.

There area few concerns with Zohore, though. He's a player that knows the Championship, but he's never been prolific at this level. He failed to score (or play) regularly in a strong West Brom side last season and there's a reason they are looking to ship him out.

He was even behind Austin in the pecking order at the Hawthorns, so it's hard to not believe that this is a downgrade in terms of targets.
