Derby County are interested in appointing Burnley boss Sean Dyche as the club's new manager.

The Rams made the decision to sack Phillip Cocu in the November international break, and they have yet to appoint a successor to the Dutch coach.

A host of names have been linked with the vacancy in the past few weeks, with caretaker boss Wayne Rooney in the frame.

However, as quoted by Derbyshire Live, the Sun have claimed that Dyche is in the running to move to Pride Park. The 49-year-old has built a good reputation for the work he has done with the Clarets over the years.

That includes winning promotion from the Championship twice, and establishing Burnley as a Premier League side. The update claims that Dyche wants talks with Burnley about his long-term future as they are in the process of a takeover.

Derby are unlikely to make an announcement about the new boss until their own takeover situation is finalised, with Sheikh Khaled poised to buy the Championship side.

The verdict

This would be a brilliant appointment for Derby if they could pull it off, as the work Dyche has done at Turf Moor has been sensational.

Whether it's realistic is open to debate, but the fans will be pleased that the new owners are showing ambition by even trying to bring in Dyche. They're right to aim high too, because Derby are a big club with huge potential.

Ultimately, they need to make a decision quickly though, and it will be interesting to see what happens.
