Derby County are interested in signing Brighton striker Jurgen Locadia before the end of the transfer window, according to Football Insider.

The 25-year-old joined Brighton from Eredivisie side PSV Eindhoven - where he worked under Derby boss Phillip Cocu - in January 2018.

The centre-forward scored four goals in 34 appearances for Brighton in all competitions last season, as the Seagulls finished 17th in the Premier League.

However, the Dutchman could find his first-team chances at the Amex Stadium limited this term, after Brighton signed striker Neal Maupay from Brentford earlier this week.

Derby reached the Championship play-off final under Frank Lampard last season and are hoping to challenge for promotion this campaign under new manager Cocu.

The Dutchman took charge at Pride Park last month and has already signed several players, including Wayne Rooney, as he looks to build a team capable of winning promotion.

The Rams started their new campaign with a 2-1 win at Huddersfield Town on Monday night and face Swansea City in their next game on Saturday.

The Verdict

This would be a decent signing for Derby and would provide the Rams with competition for the likes of Martyn Waghorn and Jack Marriott up front.

Locadia could find his first-team chances at Brighton limited this season after the arrival of Maupay, so there's a chance that he may be tempted by a move to Derby and the chance to work with Cocu again.

The Derby boss will know the striker well from their time together at PSV and should be able to get the best out of him should he make the switch to Pride Park.

His goal record for PSV is very impressive and I think he's more than capable of making an impact in the Championship. It will be interesting to see if Derby are able to get a deal done before the transfer deadline on Thursday.
