Derby County captain Richard Keogh believes he still has a lot to offer after Saturday's game at Cardiff marked his 500th career start.

The 31-year old has featured for Bristol City, Carlisle, Coventry and of course the Rams, as well as various loan spells earlier in his career.

It's his time at Derby where he has clocked up the most appearances and the Irish international revealed he is proud of achieving the milestone.

I've just done it through hard work and I'm proud of myself to play that many games. Sometimes I've got to take stock of that, I'm probably a bit too harsh on myself at times and I've got to give myself a bit more credit,” he told Rams TV.

Despite making so many appearances, Keogh still expects to add many more.

I feel as fit as I've ever been – all the testing and the stats show that I'm in great shape so I feel like I'm coming into my prime years. I just love playing football.”

The centre-back has not missed a minute of action in the league this season, forming a strong partnership with Curtis Davies.

The Verdict

Reaching 500 career starts is a fantastic achievement for any player and is a testament to their ability and application.

There has been a lot of highs and lows for Keogh at Derby but he has proven himself to be a very capable defender at this level.

He is still at a good age for a centre-back and could have at least a few more years to give.
