Derby County captain Richard Keogh was reportedly involved in an incident with a member of the Nottingham Forest ground staff after the East Midlands Derby last night.

Forest comfortably beat their rivals 3-0 in the Carabao Cup at the City Ground, with Albert Adomah, Joe Lolley, and Joao Carvalho adding the goals.

The Rams captain was named in the matchday squad for the clash but did not feature in the game.

According to Sky Sports, the incident took place after while a number of Derby players were warming down and the groundstaff were tending to the pitch.

The report suggests Keogh is alleged to have got into an argument with and confronted one of the Forest groundsmen, which led to the duo having to be pulled apart.

It is understood that Keogh has been left with noticeable scratch marks on his neck, while the condition of the Forest staff member is unknown.

It is believed that the two clubs will now discuss potential disciplinary action but no comment has been provided by either Derby or Forest.

The teams are scheduled to meet again at the City Ground on Sunday 9th of November.

The Verdict

I understand the East Midlands derby is a historic rivalry that draws passionate responses but this is not something you like to see.

It is difficult to tell at this point what the specifics of the incident are but there does not appear to have been any need for the exchange.

The Rams captain must have been frustrated following the result but to get himself involved in something like this is foolish and not the sort of example he should be setting for his side.

The incident will likely fuel the rivalry between the two sides ahead of their two further meetings this season.
