Derby County have today allowed Cian Kelly-Caprani to leave the club in search of more first-team football and join Belper, according to The NPL.

With the Rams in some financial difficulties over the last season or so, it has led to them having to often turn to some of their youth players to help them in league action.

Plenty of names have since come through the ranks and developed in the first-team squad before either cementing a frequent place or moving on.

However, with the side now taken over by new owners, the side have less of an emphasis on youth and whilst they are still bringing players though, they may need to ship some names out to get more regular action now. One of the latest names to now be given a loan deal elsewhere is Kelly-Caprani, who has also yet to make his Derby debut.

He's featured for the club's reserve side already though, playing in seven games for their Under-21 side this year and producing one assist. Now, with the forward impressing in the youth ranks for the Rams, he has been poached by non-league side Belper on a loan deal.

It means that Kelly-Caprani will now be able to get more minutes under his belt at just 18-years-old, with Derby unlikely to give him minutes or a debut this campaign. Having been able to bring in plenty of names over the summer now, he won't be near the first-team yet and will now have the chance to go out and get some gametime.

The Verdict

Derby have often given youth a chance over the last few years and it has led to some real stars and talents emerging both as regulars for the club and as regulars elsewhere.

Even with the new owners at the helm, they are unlikely to abandon that approach given how successful it made them in spite of their difficulties. Still, with the side now able to sign more experienced players and bring in some more names that a manager can sign from elsewhere, there are likely to not be as many opportunities.

It means that some of their reserve side will undoubtedly have to go out on loan to get gametime and knowhow and Kelly-Caprani heading out to non-league is certainly not a bad move for both sides involved. Belper now get a player who is eager to prove himself and has youth team experience and the Rams can see him continue his development in more competitive football.

It is a good deal for all then and should see the 18-year-old continue to impress.
