Derby County have shipped six goals in the last two matches and their defence needs addressing.

After losing 4-1 against Leeds United at Pride Park, Derby fans would have hoped that their team was able to bounce back at The New Den against Millwall.

But conceding two early goals cost Derby in the end as they lost 2-1 to the South London outfit.

Frank Lampard changed his team a lot this summer and brought in a number of attacking players, but perhaps he neglected the defence a bit.

Fikayo Tomori has arrived on loan from Chelsea but with Curtis Davies injured, Lampard's other options are Richard Keogh and Alex Pearce.

Keogh has been criticised a lot recently and Pearce does not have much competitive game time under his belt in recent years.

Lampard will now have his eyes on another centre-half before the loan window closes at the end of August and he should look at signing John Souttar from Hearts.

Wigan Athletic are hoping to sign the 21-year-old on a loan to buy arrangement but the Rams should look to hijack this deal if they can.

Souttar is one of the best defenders in the Scottish Premiership, despite his young age, and he already has plenty of experience under his belt in his career.

The Scotland under-21 international has played well over 150 games already for Dundee United and Hearts and this stands him in good stead for the future.

If he signs on loan with a view to signing permanently, he could be an immediate fix for Derby at the back and also a shrewd long-term addition as he could partner Davies for years to come.

This is definitely a deal which Lampard should explore because the defence definitely needs strengthening.
