Derby County are on the verge of re-signing Jordon Ibe on a free transfer, with the player’s medical underway.

According to reports from Football Insider, Derby will swoop to re-sign Ibe following his release from AFC Bournemouth. It’s claimed that his medical is already underway.

Ibe was released by Bournemouth earlier in the summer, with the winger struggling for first-team opportunities with the Cherries.

The 24-year-old had been with the South Coast club since July 2016, with Ibe managing 92 appearances for the club and scoring five goals across all competitions.

Last season there was only two Premier League appearances for Ibe, who also featured twice in the EFL Cup for Eddie Howe.

Now, it’s claimed by Football Insider that Ibe is on the verge of taking up a contract offer with Derby in the Championship and has undergone stages of a medical as a deal draws closer.

Ibe previously had a spell with Derby on loan from Liverpool during the 2014/15 campaign.

In 20 appearances in the Championship for the Rams, the winger scored five goals and impressed.

Derby began the 2020/21 campaign on Saturday with a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Reading FC.

The Verdict  

Ibe hasn’t quite hit the heights expected of him in Bournemouth and a move back into the Championship made real sense.

As a free transfer and given his previous exploits at Derby, the reunion makes sense and there will be a hope that Pride Park is the place Ibe can finally rediscover his best.
