John Terry will look to bring in Ashley Cole as his assistant manager if he lands the Derby County job.

The Rams are searching for a new boss after they decided to sack Phillip Cocu during the November international break, and Terry has emerged as a leading contender.

If the Chelsea legend did start his managerial career at Pride Park, the Mirror have revealed that Cole could join him.

The two were teammates for the Blues and England, with Cole currently coaching at Chelsea's academy following his retirement, which came after a short spell with Derby in 2019.

As well as Cole, the update indicates that current MK Dons number two Luke Williams could be targeted, whilst Wayne Rooney is likely to continue to have a role on the backroom team if Terry does come in.

Of course, Rooney, who is leading Derby right now, knows Terry and Cole from their playing days with the Three Lions as well.

An announcement naming the permanent boss is expected once Sheikh Khaled completes his takeover of the club.

The verdict

Like any manager, Terry will want to bring in people that he knows and trusts if he lands the job, and Cole clearly fits into that category.

From Derby's perspective, it would be fantastic for the squad to work with the likes of Terry, Cole and Rooney on a daily basis, because they are three of the best English players of the past 20 years.

The lack of managerial experience with Terry is a concern though, so it will be interesting to see what happens.
