John Terry is 'unlikely' to be named as Derby County manager, according to the Derbyshire Telegraph.

The Rams are searching for a new boss after taking the decision to sack Phillip Cocu from his position during the November international break.

While the imminent takeover of the club must be completed first, there's no doubt about what supporters are looking to sort first.

Results on the pitch simply haven't been good enough this term with Derby winning just one of 15 games so far in the Championship.

That's why the search for a new manager is such a hot topic.

Quiz: Did these 17 Derby County players ever actually score a league goal for the club?

Several names have been linked with the role including current coaches Liam Rosenior and Wayne Rooney are considered as contenders.

Another name said to be on the list is John Terry.

The former Chelsea man is assistant manager to Dean Smith at Aston Villa but has been tipped to take on his first managerial post with the Rams.

However reports from the Derbyshire Telegraph how now claimed that his appointment is unlikely as the Championship club continue their search for the right man to succeed Cocu.

The Verdict

I think that this is probably the correct decision to rule him out of the race.

Derby County need a manager who can bring vital experience to the club and why Terry enjoyed a successful career as a player, he's still a novice as a manager.

Someone needs to take a punt on him, but given the Rams' situation I don't think that they're the right club to do that.
