According to reliable journalist, Alan Nixon, Derby County have made an enquiry about signing Callum Robinson from Preston North End.

Gary Rowett is reportedly scouting around looking for reinforcements, and has now identified Robinson as a target for the Rams.

Robinson was impressive at Deepdale last season having arrived as a free transfer 12-months ago, after three successful loan spells with the Lilywhites.

The 22-year-old made 42 appearances in the Championship, scoring ten league goals and 11 across all competitions.

Robinson has two-years remaining on his contract at Deepdale.

Rowett is desperate to bolster his attacking options before the end of the summer, with his Derby side lacking real creativity following the departure of both Will Hughes and Tom Ince.

The Rams were keen to sign Tom Lawrence from Leicester City, after the youngster impressed in the Championship last season while on-loan with Ipswich Town.

However, Leicester were quick to reject Derby’s £7m bid for Lawrence.

So far this summer Curtis Davies and Tom Huddlestone have arrived at the Pride Park Stadium from Hull City, whilst Andre Wisdom has returned on a permanent contract form Liverpool.

Rowett is preparing for his first full season in charge of Derby, and they kick-off the 2017/18 campaign on Friday evening when they face Sunderland.

The Verdict

Robinson would be a good option for Derby after their failure to sign Lawrence, he scored a similar amount of goals to the Leicester man in the Championship last season and it is likely he will come at a fraction of the price.

Rowett will be desperate to boost his attacking options after the departure of Ince, with the winger key to everything Derby did well last season.

Ince will be missed, but if his transfer fee is put to good use and Derby’s overall squad looks stronger, Rowett will see that as a success.
